The first BTBA Tenpintour Champion
Liz Griffin has become our first BTBA Tenpintour Champion, and its fair to say that we could not have wished for a more popular Champion. The wife of our beloved Chairman Ron, Liz has won two of this years events putting her on a par with England favourite Catherine Wills with a total of six TPT Titles each.
Our Champion started her Campaign with a third place finish at our first event back in January in Peterborough, an event that was won by the bubbly Sandra Williams. Liz averaged 175 over her ten games with a high score of 202, which came along in her second game. Not so much joy in the second event where she finished 14th out of the sixteen entries but still maintained a 170 average, this dropped her from 3rd to 6th place on the OOM, so not too much damage done. TPT 2 Romford was won by Welsh international Lynne Walker |

Our first visit to the Airport for TPT 6 saw Liz average 179 but failing to qualify for the final by just three spares or one double strike. She finished 7th and chalked up another 19 points. Julie Johanssen won this event and become the new leader of the Order Of Merit. Julie bowled out of her skin leading all the way through round one with three scores in excess of 200, not bad for a bowler with an entering average of 166. Her finishing average for round one was 195 and just to prove a point her first score in the final was 216 which she went on to win by 56 pins from the amazing Lynne Walker. Amazing probably does not reflect the performance that Lynne treated us all to at TPT 6. Over the ten games she averaged 208 only dropping below 200 in two of her ten game. Her first three games in round two were 267 236 243 for a stunning 746 three game score. a score which many of us can only dream of, and she only came second!!
Our second visit to The 'Scareport' coincided with the first 'keeping of the best six' OOM points to kick in. That was fun!!!
Well our Champ came roaring back rolling a 220 opening game and a 256 in game 5 to achieve a 197 average for round one which she won by 65 pins. All her fireworks were set off in round one apart from a cheeky little 197 in game 9, but she still averaged 179 in the final to win by 46 pins despite 200 plus scores from all five of the other finalists. This gave her a second win of the season and her sixth overall Tenpintour title and more important, one hand on another Championship!!

And so to Poole for TPT 9 and all Liz had to do was get to the final ahead of Julie, and she should be OK, and that is precisely what she did.as Julie failed to make the last five. Hilary Cooke was squad leader at the close of round one with a lead of 13 pins over TPT 1 Champ Sandra Williams. This all changed in the final, as Hilary dropped to second place while Lynn Squibb upped her game and won her first event of the season.
The remarkable thing about Liz's season and her Championship victory is that she has become the first bowler, male or female to win the OOM Championships twice, her previous win was in 2015
